Lake of Bays Township — Councillor — McLean Ward
1. What actions have you personally taken to support a greener, more sustainable climate?
As a family we have taken a 40 acre sand and gravel pit that has been inactive since the early 80’s and naturalized it with wildflower and winter rye fields, orchard, vegetable garden, compost and chickens. I’ve paddled 11 of the lakes in McLean Ward that are accessible by the public and looked at shorelines from a different perspective with most natural, but some could really use some help. I encourage and support naturalizing shorelines. Also, we are in the construction business and do not support fossil fuel burning furnaces and use geo thermal along with encouraging it where it can be done.
2. What opportunities for climate leadership at the municipal level (e.g. greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs)) would you champion in one or more of these areas: Buildings | Housing | Land use (sprawl) | Transportation | Other
All of them.
3. A long-term problem requires a long-term solution. What is your 100-year plan? If elected, what would be your first action?
Stop using fossil fuels for heating these large cottages being built. In some cases there are 2 furnaces installed! Encourage building with natural products therefore reducing carbon-footprint. Give incentives.
